It is already known dogs improve our quality of life. But have you ever wonder how do they do it?
Through the course of history, dogs have evolved becoming humans “best friends”, learning how to understand our behaviors, tone of voice and gestures. They become loyal and very helpful to us. The relationship among humans and dogs become so closed that nowadays we both produce the hormone “oxytocin” when we stare into each other’s eyes.
Owning a pet reduces heart diseases and it’s demonstrated it increases our life expectancy. Pet owners are less likely to suffer from depression, to have high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Furthermore, playing, touching and soothing a pet relaxes both body and mind, rapidly calms down and soothes us if we are stressed. People living with pets are less likely to suffer for loneliness and to visit a doctor.
Having a pet as part of our family also benefits the kids. Children growing up with pets are indeed more emotionally intelligent and compassionate; they learn how to take care of someone, feeling useful and competent.
A dog is a real treasure!
