Hiking safety tips

The time to go on holiday with your pet has finally arrived! The countryside is the perfect choice to please the needs of both of you. If you decide to visit Tuscany you won’t be disappointed but to fully enjoy your getaway, you should keep in mind that you might also run into other animals. You have to be prepared to convert any “unforeseen meeting” in an easy, serene and pleasant episode.

Watch out for wild animals, especially for snakes, that could be dangerous for you and your dog. We suggest adding to your dog’s collar a little bell and to beat on the floor with a walking stick, in order to scare them while walking.

If you run into a flock, it is possible that you will also meet sheepdogs. It is prudent to calmly get away- don’t be scared- there is no need to run, but keep your dog on the leash and leave the area. This precaution is also recommended in case your dog is not with you. Similarly, you might encounter countryside-houses without fences but with dogs outside as “guards”. Again, we recommend putting your dog on a leash and staying away from them.

Also remember that if you have a “hunting dog”, even if he has always lived in a city, his behavior could unexpectedly change if he sees potential preys such as deers, hares, birds etc. Before deciding to untie the leash, you should question yourself whether the relationship with your four-legged friend is solid enough to know how he could behave in these types of environments.

If you follow these few tips, hiking in Tuscany will be an experience that you will surely remember and make the relationship with your dog more solid and pleasing.
